Band information

Asphyxia was originally conceived in early 2005 by Brown and Parkhill when they were just 13 years old however the full line-up wasn't complete until Marko Gal joined in late 2006, freeing up Taylor to concentrate on vocals. Early in 2007 the band began playing live and had developed a slightly progressive death metal style with some thrash element. Picking up a grant from the South Australian Youth Arts Board, Asphyxia began recording a full length debut in July 2007 but before it was released Parkhill announced his intention to leave. Brody Green joined in early 2008 and the self-titled album followed soon after. Green and Taylor left the band in December 2008 and with Marchioto and Weedall aboard they opened for Whitechapel and Psycroptic in early 2009. Marko Gal then departed in late April. In November, the band won Best Youth Band at the Australian Metal Awards.
