The band was formed from the ashes of a glam band, Ruby Jargon, and immediately headed into a studio to record a full-length self-titled album with a sound drawing heavily from Alice in Chains.
Despite having never played live before, the band turned up as national support to 1996's Anthrax/Cyco Myko tour, followed by a Sydney appearance with Fear Factory and part of a national The Angels/The Poor double bill. In spite of all of this, Gashammer was unable to develop much of a following of its own and by mid-1997 was no more and a mooted second album never appeared.
