Band information

Tourettes is an eclectic and challenging Sydney unit creating an amphetamine, apoplectic hybrid of metal, industrial noise, punk and other extreme elements.

Between 2001 and 2003 the band built up a solid reputation as an aggressive live act and in late 2004 the band went to Canada to tour and record. While there, Manning, Madden and Empson contributed backing vocals to Strapping Young Lad’s Alien album. In 2006 the band was picked up by German label Armageddon for international release and appeared at the Wacken Open Air festival. After this Tourettes returned to Australia and toured in support of the Sick Sense album. Following that, the group began recording another album in LA and European touring kept them busy throughout 2007. Madden was based in Hamburg, Germany for some time but returned to Australia in early 2008. Shortly afterward she was recruited by Michelle Meldrum and Gene Hoglan to form a new Meldrum line-up. Work began on an album in April but on May 21 Michelle Meldrum slipped in to a coma and died from a cyst on her brainstem.

Outside of Australia, the band was known as Tourettes Syndrome for a while for a while this but was changed back after the third album. The band is no longer active; Michele Madden continues with a variety of musical projects.
