Avantgard was a Perth black metal band that formed out of the ashes of [[Sacritual]]. After only two shows the group split up when Roddick and Middlebosch left; however the Spargos recorded a demo with Louis Rando of [[Pagan]] and [[The Furor]] on drums in 2001. By 2003 a complete line-up was drawn together with the addition of Regnator, Trevaskis, Ildach and Maelstrom and late in the year recorded a six-track CD and played shows with [[Deströyer 666]] and [[Alchemist]]. However, the momentum was not sustained and despite making it through to the 2004 National Campus Band Competition the group had finished by the end of the year with several members going on to join [[Wardaemonic]] and Ildach joining [[Mhorgl]].
