===Band information===
===Band information===
The Butterfly Effect is one of Australia's most popular rock acts, having scored two Top Ten albums, a Top Ten single and various entries on Triple J's Hottest 100 end of year survey. ''Imago'' was voted in at #88 in the Hottest 100 Australian Albums of All Time survey in 2011. The band began with a derivative but popular nu-metal sound in 1999 but over the years has developed into a superb alternative rock band that has experimented with progressive metal, art rock and, on their most recent album, a melodic, less heavy rock style.

The Butterfly Effect first came to notice with an independent self-titled EP they supported with heavy touring. The EP topped the AIR and ARIA indie charts and remained in the Top 20 for almost a year. Winning a deal with Roadshow Music, the band issued the "Crave" single which just missed out on a Top 50 berth. ''Begins Here'' peaked at #23 and eventually went gold, charting for more than a year. The band received strong press from European quarters and toured the UK and central Europe in 2004. Touring continued until late 2005 when recording began on the follow-up. ''Imago'' was a much more progressive and somewhat less aggressive album than previous releases. Released in July 2006, it was held off the #1 spot by '''Eskimo Joe's''' ''Black Fingernails, Red Wine'' and went gold in two months. "A Slow Descent" was a #9 hit single. Early 2007 was spent touring with the Big Day Out, followed by an extensive Australian tour with '''Chevelle''' and '''Dead Letter Circus''' that introduced a number of new songs from the next album. A short tour in early 2008 was followed by the recording of ''Final Conversation of Kings'' which debuted at #3 when it was released in September. The album received less media support than previous releases and fans of the band's early work criticised its softer musical approach. Another tour with the Big Day Out followed in 2009. After this the band toured less and Boge formed [[Thousand Needles in Red]] as a heavier side project while The Butterfly Effect took some time off.

The Butterfly Effect began sporadic touring once more during 2011. In early 2012 it was announced that Boge would be leaving the band after a final tour in mid-2012. Glenn Esmond formed '''The Given Things''' in 2012 and Boge currently sings with that band. Paul Galagher was announced as the band’s new singer in September 2013; Boge is now with '''Like Thieves'''.

In 2017, the band reconvened and toured nationally during 2018. In December 2019 they played the Good Things festival but further work was curtailed because of COVID. With the release of new songs in between 2020 and early 2022, The Butterfly Effect began playing live once again. In 2022 they appeared at Brisbane's Wallapolooza festival and announced a new album followed by a national tour in late 2022. ''IV'' was released on September 2 and immediately peaked at #5 on the ARIA Album chart. The band will appear at Froth and Fury Fest in November 2023 and has announced a tour celebrating the 20th anniversary of ''Begins Here'' for early 2024.

Band information

The Butterfly Effect was one of Australia's most popular rock acts, having scored two Top Ten albums, a Top Ten single and various entries on Triple J's Hottest 100 end of year survey. Imago was voted in at #88 in the Hottest 100 Australian Albums of All Time survey in 2011. The band began with a nu-metal sound in 1999 but over the years developed more alternative rock and progressive metal stylings.

The Butterfly Effect first came to notice with an independent self-titled EP they supported with heavy touring. The EP topped the AIR and ARIA indie charts and remained in the Top 20 for almost a year. The band issued the "Crave" single which just missed out on a Top 50 berth. Begins Here peaked at #23 and eventually went gold, charting for more than a year. The band toured the UK and central Europe in 2004. Touring continued until late 2005 when recording began on the follow-up. Imago was a much more progressive and less aggressive album than previous releases. Released in July 2006, it was held off the #1 spot by Eskimo Joe's Black Fingernails, Red Wine and went gold in two months. "A Slow Descent" was a #9 hit single. Early 2007 was spent touring with the Big Day Out, followed by an extensive Australian tour with Chevelle and Dead Letter Circus. A short tour in early 2008 was followed by the recording of Final Conversation of Kings which debuted at #3 when it was released in September. Another tour with the Big Day Out followed in 2009. After this the band toured less and Boge formed Thousand Needles in Red as a heavier side project.

The Butterfly Effect began sporadic touring once more during 2011. In early 2012 it was announced that Boge would be leaving the band after a final tour in mid-2012. Glenn Esmond then formed The Given Things in 2012, with Boge on vocals. Paul Galagher of MofoIsDead was announced as the band’s new singer in September 2013, a tour and single were done but then The Butterfly Effect basically ended, finally announcing they had disbanded in 2016 although the band had been inactive since the end of the October 2013 tour.

IV was released on September 2 and immediately peaked at #5 on the ARIA Album chart. The band will appear at Froth and Fury Fest in November 2023 and has announced a tour celebrating the 20th anniversary of Begins Here for early 2024.
