Veil of Anguish is an extreme metal act from Geelong with strong black leanings, also incorporating elements of folk, dark ambience, Goth and doom. Veil of Anguish formed in 1995 around McManus and bassist Andy Shore, with drummer Derek Patterson. Sometime later keyboards player Ken harvey was added and a full length album entitled ''Gabrielle's Tears'' was recorded but never released. McDonald replaced Patterson on drums and Ben Mitchell stepped in for Harvey, although his stay was short. Hovey was recruited as a second guitarist but when Mitchell left he switched to keyboards and Ollis was added in 1999.

Shore left Veil of Anguish in January 2002 and Chris McEwin from [[Befallen]] joined in his place. A second album begun in 2001 also seems to have been abandoned, but finally in 2004 the band issued the five track "Spirits in the Flesh" EP.
