Band information
Abortus was a Sydney thrash and death band that emerged in the late 1990s and quickly set about releasing its debut album, Judge Me Not, that was somewhat derivative but showed a band well-grounded in extreme metal with an old-school feel. Shortly after the album's release, Abortus supported Nevermore at one of their Sydney shows and then disappeared from the live scene for almost a year while work on a second album was completed. Original drummer Matt was replaced by Mick Stojcevski in 2001 and Abortus played at the first Blood Lust festival in Sydney mid-year. Process of Elimination was released in October 2001 on Italian label Code 666, a chaotically thrashy album with sub-standard production. Two months later, Abortus toured through Europe with Mystic Circle and Ancient Rites.
In mid-2002 Stojcevski announced he was leaving the band although he remained to keep live commitments until Upston from Inferis joined the fold in March 2003. Abortus then toured Australia with Mystic Circle in October 2003, after which Upston left and the band disappeared once more. In mid-2004 it was announced that Abortus had changed its name to Herratik. Upston joined MurderWorld in 2005.
