After eight years of mucking around with Geocities and FTP sites, The Australian Metal Guide is now a wiki! This means it's quicker and easier to edit and update for the editors, and easier for other users to correct mistakes or make suggestions. Unlike other wikis, the content is protected from editing by anyone except registered editors. This is to avoid vandalism and wanton editing of the pages. The Discussion Area for each page will be open to all however, to make suggestions and correct errors. If you haven't used a wiki before, the discussion page is accessible through the tab at the top of the screen, above the main heading of every page. Currently however, this feature is unavailable while the site is being completed, so if you have information on a band that needs to be added or updated, [mailto:annex@bigpond.net.au email Brian] with the details.
Welcome back to ''The Australian Metal Guide''. This site was originally set up back in the 00s as an archive of Australian metal bands. After the release of the Darkstar Publications book ''[http://www.lulu.com/shop/brian-giffin/encyclopaedia-of-australian-heavy-metal/paperback/product-22158549.html: Encyclopaedia of Australian Heavy Metal]'', we decided to keep it going as a reference archive but sometime after 2017 the wiki software stopped working due to a problem with updated widgets in the interface and after that it just displayed blank pages. In January 2022, during a bout of COVID boredom, we ironed out the issues and got the site's functionality back. There are still a few things to sort out, but the site at least works again.

The two main sections of the Aussie Metal Guide are the band/artist pages and the [[Gig Guide]]. By using a wiki, we hope to able to list every metal/hard rock show happening in Australia and thereby allow you to plan who you want to go see and, if you're a band or promoter, what your next gig might be clashing with! Like all the pages, the Gig Guide is locked, but the discussion area can be used to notify us of shows to be added.
Much of the information here hasn't been updated since 2017 and possibly earlier, but we are slowly working through a lot of pages to bring them up to speed. Also, there used to be a Gig Guide and Venue list here, but they were both difficult to keep up to date so we have decided to abandon those.

*'''''NOTE: At this moment, even the discussion pages are currently locked. This site is still undergoing construction and evaluation'''''

Our aim for this site is to eventually provide a complete resource when it comes to metal in Australia by providing complete bios on bands and artists as well as information about venues, festivals and anything else we think important. The site isn't complete yet, but feel free to cruise around and check things out.

Check out the [[Gig Guide]] now.

This site used to be a fully-functional user-contributing wiki, but got so slammed with spam that the functionality was turned off. I am mostly using this page now as a reference archive for further editions of the book but it will be continually revised and added to so please keep visiting. The navigation area is on the left under the logo. Stay awhile... I promise I won't keep you long.

To navigate the band pages, enter a band/artist name in the search box to the left, or use these two special pages:

Welcome to the Australian Metal Guide!

Welcome back to The Australian Metal Guide. This site was originally set up back in the 00s as an archive of Australian metal bands. After the release of the Darkstar Publications book Encyclopaedia of Australian Heavy Metal, we decided to keep it going as a reference archive but sometime after 2017 the wiki software stopped working due to a problem with updated widgets in the interface and after that it just displayed blank pages. In January 2022, during a bout of COVID boredom, we ironed out the issues and got the site's functionality back. There are still a few things to sort out, but the site at least works again.

Much of the information here hasn't been updated since 2017 and possibly earlier, but we are slowly working through a lot of pages to bring them up to speed. Also, there used to be a Gig Guide and Venue list here, but they were both difficult to keep up to date so we have decided to abandon those.

For enquiries, gripes, suggestions, etc. email annex@bigpond.net.au.

Consult the User's Guide for information on using the wiki software.
