Band information

Avarin are a progressive metal band formed in Sydney in 2005. The original line up consisted of James Draper, Mike Zoias (on guitar), Steve O'Farrell and Amil Varcar on bass. Towards the end of 2006 Avarin entered an annual band competition playing their first three shows and coming in at second place. Also during this time they began recording a four-track demo entitled 'Omniscience'. In early 2007 Mike Zoias left the band due to his singing commitments with fellow Sydney band Transcending Mortality. Zoias was later replaced by Douglas Skene from Anubis on guitar. During 2008 Skene and Varcar both left Avarin. Nathaniel Smith from Transcending Mortality immediately joined the band as the new bass player.

After almost a year of searching and auditioning to find a second guitarist, Transcending Mortality's Jonathan Talan joined Avarin. Shortly after, Mike Zoias re-joined the band, this time on lead vocals. With that line up, Avarin played their first show in Canberra, November 2009. They also recorded the two-track demo featuring 'The Burning Sun' and 'Shadows and Miracles'. Avarin released their debut album Requiem in mid-2011. In June 2013 they opened for Kamelot in Sydney and appeared at the Steel Assassins festival in October. Nathan McMahon replaced Steve O'Farrell as the band's drummer in April 2014. In March 2015 the band announced it had ended following a final show in Sydney with Chaos Divine.
