Formed in Melbourne in 2012 by Karina Utomo and Ash Pegram of Young & Restless, Matt Weston from The Nation Blue and Heirs/Love Like... Electrocution drummer Damian Coward, High Tension made an impact almost immediately with their downloadable EP High Risk, High Rewards. A short time later they toured with Karnivool. In early 2013 they appeared at Pushover in Melbourne with The Amity Affliction and Dream On, Dreamer and did a short run of dates to launch the vinyl version of the EP. Coward departed the band and The Nation Blue's Dan McKay took his place. High Tension then toured with Lo! and Death Beat was released late 2013. The album was nominated for the Best Hard Rock/Heavy Metal album at 2014's ARIA AWards.
