Betrayer was a Melbourne thrash band that formed in 1984 as a four piece without Marquis, who joined in 1990 after the dissolution of his previous band, [[Virgin Soldiers]]. The band recorded a demo titled "Older Than God" that won stroung plaudits and Betrayer toured often including a slot one of the Metalfest shows in Sydney in the early 90s. In 1993, the band released their album ''Grandma'', accompanied by a video clip of the title track that went on to be voted Best Australian Metal Clip on ''Rage'' that year. Momentum was not sustained, however, and Betrayer split up in 1994.

Betrayer reformed in 2008 with the 1990 line up except for Chris Hastings who was replaced by Chris Farley ('''Virgin Soldiers'''), but nothing further seems to have occured.
