Abortus was a Sydney thrash and death band that emerged in the late 1990s and quickly set about releasing its debut album, ''Judge Me Not'', that was somewhat derivative but showed a band well-grounded in extreme metal with an old-school feel. Shortly after the album's release, Abortus supported Nevermore at one of their Sydney shows and then disappeared from the live scene for almost a year while work on a second album was completed. Original drummer Matt was replaced by Mick Stojcevski in 2001 and Abortus played at the first [[Bloodlust Festival]] in Sydney mid-year. ''Process of Elimination'' was released in October 2001 on Italian label Code 666, a chaotically thrashy album with sub-standard production. Two months later, Abortus toured through Europe with '''Mystic Circle''' and '''Ancient Rites'''.
