The Butterfly Effect first came to notice with an independent self-titled EP they supported with heavy touring. The EP topped the AIR and ARIA indie charts and remained in the Top 20 for almost a year. Winning a deal with Roadshow Music, the band issued the "Crave" single which just missed out on a Top 50 berth. ''Begins Here'' peaked at #23 and eventually went gold, charting for more than a year. The band received strong press from European quarters and toured the UK and central Europe in 2004. Touring continued until late 2005 when recording began on the follow-up. ''Imago'' was a much more progressive and somewhat less aggressive album than previous releases. Released in July 2006, it was held off the #1 spot by '''Eskimo Joe's''' ''Black Fingernails, Red Wine'' and went gold in two months. "A Slow Descent" was a #9 hit single. Early 2007 was spent touring with the Big Day Out, followed by an extensive Australian tour with '''Chevelle''' and '''Dead Letter Circus''' that introduced a number of new songs from the next album. Band information
The Butterfly Effect is one of Australia's most popular rock acts, having scored two Top Ten albums, a Top Ten single and various entries on Triple J's Hottest 100 end of year survey. Imago was voted in at #88 in the Hottest 100 Australian Albums of All Time survey in 2011. The band began with a derivative but popular nu-metal sound in 1999 but over the years has developed into a superb alternative rock band that has experimented with progressive metal, art rock and, on their most recent album, a melodic, less heavy rock style.
