Band information
Scary Mother was a Sydney rock band that sounded something like a cross between Pearl Jam and Faith No More but with a distinctly more metallic edge than those two bands. The band featured two former members of the pop-rock band Wildland, Toby Messiter and Dorian West. West was a classically-trained multi-instrumentalist with several diplomas in music.
The bands style was slow, heavy riffing rock. Scary Mother produced an excellent album of ponderous, moody rock and toured nationally with Faith No More but despite good reviews the band promptly disappeared shortly afterwards. West has gone on to feature in a myriad of acts of a multitude of styles including Men at Work, The Party Boys, Boom Crash Opera and the Machinations, was the musical director on the short-lived talen show The X Factor and has also scored and produced film and TV soundtracks.
