The Butterfly Effect first came to notice with an independent self-titled EP they supported with heavy touring. The EP topped the AIR and ARIA indie charts and remained in the Top 20 for almost a year. The Butterfly Effect is one of Australia's most popular rock acts, having scored two Top Ten albums, a Top Ten single and various entries on Triple J's Hottest 100 end of year survey. Imago was voted in at #88 in the Hottest 100 Australian Albums of All Time survey in 2011. The band began with a derivative but popular nu-metal sound in 1999 but over the years has developed into a superb alternative rock band that has experimented with progressive metal, art rock and, on their most recent album, a melodic, less heavy rock style.
