Formed in Sydney in early 2009, Northlane has developed an extremely open-minded, almost progressive style of metalcore that sets them apart from most of their contemporaries. The band's first EP was released early 2010 and Northlane toured extensively around the country, developing a fierce reputation. Alex Milovic departed the group after the EP was released, auditioning for Thy Art is Murder and joining The Storm Picturesque but his replacement Simon Anderson didn't work out so he rejoined in early 2011. Northlane then recorded Discoveries in Sydney, releasing it after a national tour late in 2011 to wide acclaim. In late 2012 Northlane did an extensive Canadian tour. The band toured with Parkway Drive and I Killed the Prom Queen in December 2012 before headlining their own shows in January 2013 ahead of appearances on the Soundwave Festival. The band's second album was released shortly after to excellent reviews, peaking at #3 on the ARIA album chart, with single 'Quantum Flux' reaching #14. Mid year the band then hit the road with Karnivool. On July 31, 2013 they were named on the line-up of the 2014 Big Day Out and also played at several shows on Parkway Drive's 10th anniversary tour. Late in the year Northlane announced the re-release of their 2009 debut EP; Singularity was nominated for the Best Hard Rock/Heavy Metal Album at the 2013 ARIA Awards but lost out to Karnivools Asymmetry.
