Band information
Betrayer was a Melbourne thrash band that formed in 1984 as a four piece of Shane Ponsford, Ashley and Dale Robertson and Chris Hastings. In 1990 ex-Virgin Soldiers guitarist Geoff Marquis joined and the band recorded the demo Older Than God that won strong plaudits. Betrayer toured often including a slot at one of the Metalfest shows in Sydney in the early 90s and were at one point supported by Powderfinger in Sydney.
In 1993, the band released their album Grandma, accompanied by a video clip of the title track that went on to be voted Best Australian Metal Clip on Rage that year. Despite some international attention, Betrayer wound up in 1994. Marquis and Ashley Robertson joined the reformed Virgin Soldiers.
Betrayer reformed in 2008 with the 1990 line up except for Chris Hastings who was replaced by Chris Farley (Virgin Soldiers), but nothing further seems to have occured.
