Band information
Melbourne band Contrive plays angry metal with a hardcore edge that isn't that far removed from late-90s Sepultura at times.
Stahlmann and Paul Haug featured in the final version of Fracture and Contrive grew out of that band's demise. Not long after forming the group released an EP and appeared at Metal for the Brain and has since developed a reputation as a band who will play anywhere with anyone. In 2002, Contrive supported Mayhem and Destruction, released a second EP in early 2003 and racked up shows with Sepultura, Soilwork and Machine Head.
Mixed by Frederick Nordström, Contrive's debut album The Meaning Unseen was issued in September 2005 and saw some melodic death metal aspects entering their sound. Since then the group has continued to appear live regularly. Contrive will be touring Thailand in 2009 but without Stahlmann, who has broken his collarbone while on holidays. Greg Shaw from Truth Corroded will be replacing him for the tour, which includes a date with Parkway Drive in Bangkok.
