Band information

The Butterfly Effect was one of Australia's most popular rock acts, having scored two Top Ten albums, a Top Ten single and various entries on Triple J's Hottest 100 end of year survey. Imago was voted in at #88 in the Hottest 100 Australian Albums of All Time survey in 2011. The band began with a nu-metal sound in 1999 but over the years developed more alternative rock and progressive metal stylings.

The Butterfly Effect first came to notice with an independent self-titled EP they supported with heavy touring. The EP topped the AIR and ARIA indie charts and remained in the Top 20 for almost a year. The band issued the "Crave" single which just missed out on a Top 50 berth. Begins Here peaked at #23 and eventually went gold, charting for more than a year. The band toured the UK and central Europe in 2004. Touring continued until late 2005 when recording began on the follow-up. Imago was a much more progressive and less aggressive album than previous releases. Released in July 2006, it was held off the #1 spot by Eskimo Joe's Black Fingernails, Red Wine and went gold in two months. "A Slow Descent" was a #9 hit single. Early 2007 was spent touring with the Big Day Out, followed by an extensive Australian tour with Chevelle and Dead Letter Circus. A short tour in early 2008 was followed by the recording of Final Conversation of Kings which debuted at #3 when it was released in September. Another tour with the Big Day Out followed in 2009. After this the band toured less and Boge formed Thousand Needles in Red as a heavier side project.

The Butterfly Effect began sporadic touring once more during 2011. In early 2012 it was announced that Boge would be leaving the band after a final tour in mid-2012. Glenn Esmond formed The Given Things in 2012 and Boge currently sings with that band. Paul Galagher was announced as the band’s new singer in September 2013; Boge is now with Like Thieves.
