Band Information

While their tenure was remarkably brief, S.A.S. were regarded as Melbourne’s premier metal unit during their existence, a considerable achievement when their contemporaries included Virgin Soldiers and Bengal Tigers, although their status was probably aided by Crofts’ virtuoso guitar playing. After their well-received album was released Smit was replaced briefly by Carmen Suite’s Bob Topping, but the association didn’t last and Robyn Colbeck from Wolf moved into the position. S.A.S. was unable to follow up the success of Warlords however. Colbeck joined a band called Intruder in late 1987 and was killed in a motorcycle accident on February 25, 1989
