Band Information

Melbourne's Virgin Soldiers were one of the earliest of Australia's true metal bands with origins going back to about 1980. The band utilised the sound of both the New Wave of British Heavy Metal and the Australian heavy boogie tradition to good effect and were key players on the scene for most of their original eleven year career. The self-titled EP was lauded in Kerrang! and Virgin Soldiers even caught the attention of the industry outside the usual metal circles. Real success eluded them however, and the band split up in 1990. Marquis joined Betrayer. That band split in 1994 and shortly afterward, Virgin Soldiers reformed, with Ashley Robertson (Betrayer) on bass and Paul Fernando on drums. The reformation was short-lived and the band once again split up.

Williamson and Farley formed Sump in 1997.
