Band Information
Formed in Byron Bay in 2006, In Hearts Wake is a melodic metalcore band with a strong environmental and humanitarian focus. The band first came to notice with self-funded EPs in 2007 and 2008, with drummer Caleb Burton replacing Jayke West between releases. Heavy regional touring, often with Northlane, also added to their profile. A split EP with The Bride appeared in 2010. Jack Deacon then left the band to be replaced by Kyle Erich.
Signed to UNFD in 2011, the band's debut album Divination was recorded in Michigan with Josh Schroeder. Released on August 31, Divination peaked at #27 on the ARIA Album chart. Following dates with iwrestledabearonce, In Hearts Wake headed out on the Worldeater tour with Northlane in January 2013. A national tour with Dream on Dreamer was followed by several supports with Enter Shikari. The following March the band toured New Zealand, then Australia in June with Canadian band Counterparts. Late in the year they toured through Europe with The Amity Affliction and were added to the 2014 Soundwave Festival bill. Ahead of that, In Hearts Wake released the first single from their upcoming second album as a download, with all proceeds being donated to three international charities with links to indigenous welfare in Australia, North America and east Africa; Joel Birch of The Amity Affliction featured on the track. Earthwalker was released on May 2, 2014 and entered the ARIA chart at #5. It won an ARIA nomination for Best Heavy Metal/Hard Rock Album. The album's twin, Skydancer, was recorded at the same time and released exactly a year later, peaking at #2. The band then toured North America twice, firstly with Northlane and then with Parkway Drive and Thy Art is Murder. In April of 2016 the band released the Equinox EP, recorded collaboratively with Northlane and set out on a dual headline tour. Former Buried in Verona member Conor Ward, who had been the band's touring drummer since Burton's departure following the Earthwalker/Skydancer sessions, became an official member of the band.
Ark (#3) was released in May 2017 and followed by a national tour with While She Sleeps and Crossfaith. The album was tied in with a marine environment clean-up initiative. Late in the year they toured Europe and North America and returned to Australia in early 2018 for another tour. The acoustic EP Ark Prevails was released in February and In Hearts Wake played on the Vans Warped tour during the year and at Unify Gathering in January 2019.
The band's fifth album Kaliyuga appeared in August 2020 and completed their four-album elements cycle, peaking at #2. Appearances at the Full Tilt Festivals in 2021 were held over until 2022 due to COVID restrictions and in the meantime the band released an enhanced version of Kaliyuga with extra tracks. The band's environmentally-focused film Green is the New Black was released in early 2022 and earned them an Environment Music Prize nomination. The soundtrack album was released in August and followed by a national tour with RedHook, Pridelands and Banks Arcade.
