In June the band began work on their second album, eventually heading to Vancouver, Canada to complete mastering and mixing with '''Devin Townsend'''. In 2002, Contrive supported Mayhem and Destruction, released a second EP in early 2003 and racked up shows with Sepultura, Soilwork and Machine Head.
Contrive's debut album The Meaning Unseen was issued in September 2005 and saw some melodic metalcore aspects entering their sound. Contrive toured Thailand in 2009 but without Stahlmann, who broke his collarbone while on holidays.
