Dead City Ruins was formed in London in 2006 by Jake Wiffen and Mick Quee. After recording an EP and touring Britain for a year or so, the pair returned to Australia and that version of the band folded. AFter auditioning for another band featuring Tommy Cain, Wiffen convinced the guitarist to join he and Quee instead and Dead City Ruins reformed in Melbourne in 2009. After recording 2011's ''Midnight Killer'' album the band took on former [[Eye of the Enemy]] guitarist Sean Blanchard and booked their own 50-date European tour, travelling the continent in a hired van. Mid-2012 they again toured through Europe and Britain, supporting the likes of '''Mastodon''', '''Hardcore Superstar''', '''Faster Pussycat''' and '''Orange Goblin''', among others, before spending most of 2013 recording a second album. Late in the year they returned to Europe for a 13-country run with '''Ugly Kid Joe''' and '''Skid Row'''; after the album was released in Australia they also toured nationally with those bands in April 2014. Mick Quee departed in October 2014 and was replaced by roadie Tony Alkemade.

Following the release of ''Never Say Die'' in early 2018, Dead City Ruins toured extensively. Jake Wiffen left the band late the same year after extensive European touring and a final show with '''Living Colour''' in Melbourne and the band announced Steve Welsh as his replacement. More European shows followed with temporary bass player Luke Bolton but after this all live activity then ceased due to COVID-19 restrictions. ''Shockwave'' was recorded during the downtime with Thomas Murphy joining the band. In early 2022 they appeared on the Uncaged Festival and opened for '''Kiss''' in Melbourne. Band information

After recording 2011's Midnight Killer album the band took on former Eye of the Enemy guitarist Sean Blanchard and booked their own 50-date European tour, travelling the continent in a hired van. Mid-2012 they again toured through Europe and Britain, supporting the likes of Mastodon, Hardcore Superstar, Faster Pussycat and Orange Goblin, among others, before spending most of 2013 recording a second album. Late in the year they returned to Europe for a 13-country run with Ugly Kid Joe and Skid Row; after the album was released in Australia they also toured nationally with those bands in April 2014. Mick Quee departed in October 2014 and was replaced by roadie Tony Alkemade.

Following the release of Never Say Die in early 2018, Dead City Ruins toured extensively. Jake Wiffen left the band late the same year after extensive European touring and a final show with Living Colour in Melbourne and the band announced Steve Welsh as his replacement. More European shows followed with temporary bass player Luke Bolton but after this all live activity then ceased due to COVID-19 restrictions. Shockwave was recorded during the downtime with Thomas Murphy joining the band. In early 2022 they appeared on the Uncaged Festival and opened for Kiss in Melbourne. Shockwave was released soon after.
