Band Information

Ignite The Ibex is a technical death metal band from The Hills district in western Sydney. The line-up was gradually assembled from 2004 onwards with Dyer and DuBarry as the founding members. Vocalist Chris Elder recorded on a few early demos until he left to join Wolfkahn. Terry Crane (ex-Beretta Justice) was recruited to take on his duties full-time.

Ben DuBarry and Nick Pupovac were amongst the first musicians in Australia to own, write and record with Ibanez's first commercial line of 8-String guitars. The band plays in drop-E tuning, which reflects a strong Meshuggah influence in their sound.

After more than a year of inactivity, which was exacerbated by a long search for an appropriate vocalist, the band began occasionally playing shows in Sydney during 2009. A self-titled EP was independently released in January 2010. Later in the year Crane left and was replaced by one-man metal composer Jamie-Leigh Smith (better known under the alias Mallory-Weiss) from Lo!. In early 2011 toured interstate with Alice Through the Windshield Glass and Elysian. After appearing at Bastardfest in September, Smith left the band,
