Band Information

Formed in Sydney in early 2009, Northlane has developed an extremely open-minded, almost progressive style of metalcore that sets them apart from most of their contemporaries. Drummer Brandon Derby and bassist Alex Milovic departed before the first EP. Milovic was replaced by Simon Anderson and guitarist Jon Deiley recorded the drums for Hollow Existence with Mitch Collier joining the band's live line-up immediately afterward, but he was soon replaced by Nic Pettersen. Milovic auditioned for Thy Art is Murder and joined The Storm Picturesque but he rejoined in early 2011. Northlane then recorded Discoveries in Sydney, releasing it after a national tour late in 2011. Tours with August Burns Red, House Vs. Hurricane and Parkway Drive followed in 2012. In late 2012 Northlane did an extensive Canadian tour with Counterparts and Stray From the Path, then recorded their second album. The band toured with Parkway Drive and I Killed the Prom Queen in December 2012 before headlining their own shows with In Hearts Wake in January 2013 ahead of appearances on the Soundwave Festival. The band's second album was on March 23 2013, and peaked at #3 on the ARIA album chart, with single 'Quantum Flux' reaching #14. Mid year the band then hit the road with Karnivool. On July 31, 2013 they were named on the line-up of the 2014 Big Day Out and also played at several shows on Parkway Drive's 10th anniversary tour. Late in the year Northlane announced the re-release of their 2009 debut EP; Singularity was nominated for the Best Hard Rock/Heavy Metal Album at the 2013 ARIA Awards but lost out to Karnivool's Asymmetry.

In November 2013 Northlane toured the US with Veil of Maya and Structures. During 2014, Northlane appeared at the Big Day Out then returned to the US for the American Dream Tour with Bring Me the Horizon, Of Mice & Men and Issues. That was followed by a European/UK tour Architects. In Australia they headlined their own touring festival, Free Your Mind, with Thy Art is Murder, Make Them Suffer, Veil of Maya and Volumes. In September, Adrian Fitipaldes suddenly announced he was leaving the band, citing vocal problems. Marcus Bridge replaced him in early 2015 and Northlane went straight to work on their third album, Node, which topped the Australian chart when it was released on July 24, 2015. At the ARIA Awards for that year, Node won the Best Hard Rock/Heavy Metal category.

On April 19, 2016, Northlane released Equinox, an EP recorded collaboratively with In Hearts Wake and the tour in June featured both bands plus Hands Like Houses and Ocean Grove. After appearing at the Unify Gathering in January 2017, Northlane toured nationally in March and then began a cryptic internet blitz to promote their next album, Mesmer, which was released on March 24 and debuted at #3. They then did a world tour which saw them appear at Download in England and other European festivals, in Canada and in South America for the first time.

The live album Analog Future was released on March 16 2018. In September that year Milovic departed Northlane for the second time and was replaced by Brendon Padjasek from the Canadian band Structures.
