Band Information

Pathogen was a Perth death metal band that was formed in high school around Barton, Tim Paterson and Gavin Irving and the band became a five piece with the addition of John Cuypers and Phil Norman. Neither remained in the band for long and Pathogen's revolving door of musicians began. Dave Sandstrom (guitar) and Louis Dunstan (bass) both joined and then subsequently left the band at around the same time, but Sandstrom rejoined as the band's bass player shortly afterward. Dunstan went on to become one of the founding members of Jed Whitey. Justin Norton and Mark Boeijen (ex-Sámain) subsequently replaced Paterson and Irving.

Progress for the group was always halting, although the "Nightfall" demo from 1997 is quite impressive and the band opened for Impaled Nazarene in mid-1999. In 2000, Pathogen released 'Shallow', after which the band once again suffered a wholesale line-up reshuffle with Cressal from Centaur, Dyson from Choke and Rando from Pagan joining the band. Mark Boeijen formed Vespers Descent and later joined Voyager. Pathogen supported Mayhem in 2002 and Opeth in February 2003. Throughout this period, the band worked constantly on an album release. In July 2004 there was yet another upheaval when Cressal left Pathogen. He formed Malignant Monster. Lenane from Inter Alia joined the band at this point and the band supported Shadows Fall and As I Lay Dying in early 2005. The Bloodline album was finally completed around the same time.

In October 2005, Pathogen toured nationally with Children of Bodom. After this Rando left to concentrate on his role in The Furor and was replaced by Ben Mazzarol. 2006 was a busy year for the band as they supported Dark Tranquillity, Arch Enemy and The Black Dahlia Murder. In early 2007 however, Lenane and Mazzarol departed and Cressal and Boeijen returned so that Pathogen could complete shows with Lamb of God. Following this, Scott Farrell joined Pathogen on drums. The band supported Amon Amarth in early 2008 but after that was almost totally inactive. Glenn Dyson left the band to concentrate on his touring and promotions business (and his porn-core band Cuntscrape). In late 2010 Pathogen announced a farewell show for January 2, 2011.

Along with Malignant Monster, Cressel is now the vocalist with The Amenta. Mazzarol has gone on to play in a variety of bands including Noctis and Chaos Divine.
