Band information
Totally Unicorn is a wildly unpredictable band from Wollongong who dabble in mathcore, metalcore and post-hardcore at times. Their unbridled live performances have often resulted in almost total nudity and property damage at venues. The band was formed in Wollongong in 2010 by vocalist Drew Gardner, guitarist Clancy Tucker and drummer Michael Bennett, all formerly of Hospital The Musical. Robert Mudge came from another local band, Ohana and the band released an EP in October. Mudge left the next year and was replaced by Tim McMahon. Late in 2011 Totally Unicorn toured with Gay Paris and God God Dammit Dammit and also released a three-way split with those bands to promote the tour. An Australian tour supporting Tonight Alive followed in May 2012 and following a show with Pour Habit in December, Tucker left. Totally Unicorn became a five piece at that point, recruiting Kerim Erkin and Aaron Streatfield as Tucker's replacements.
In 2013 the band toured with the travelling Hits & Pits festival and the same year did tours with Robotosaurus, Kvelertak and Rolo Tomassi. Totally Unicorn opened for Norma Jean early in 2015 and McMahon departed to be replaced by Lee Nielson late the same year.
Dream Life was released in mid-2016. Early the following year, Bennett left Totally Unicorn and was replaced by Adam Myers ahead of a tour with Frenzal Rhomb and a show with The Dillinger Escape Plan. Erkin departed after this and was no replacement was made. Second album Sorry arrived in April 2019. After their appearance at Yours & Owls in December, Neilson left and was replaced by Dean Podmore, ex-Gay Paris.
COVID restrictions stopped the band's live activity for over two years but several singles were released during that time. In February 2022, High Spirits/Low Life was released.
