Ben Franz from The Waifs and ex-Downer drummer Royce Uyen joined shortly afterward and the band played its first show on June 6, 2006. Franz left the band in early 2008 to honour his commitment to The Waifs and was replaced by Brendan Ewing, also ex-Thumb.

After some downtime, The Devil Rides Out announced Ewing's replacement as Scott Paterson. The band's 2013 EP release featured a darker and heavier style, with Uyen announcing he would be leaving the band following its release. The EP was accompanied by video clips for each track. Nathan Sproule from Chainsaw Hookers replaced Uyen in July 2013. Late in the year The Devil Rides Out opened for Sleep in Sydney and Perth and then supported Melvins.
