Band Information

The Poor began in Sydney in March 1994. Previously to then, they had been known as The Poor Boys and released two EPs under that name. The same month they released More Wine Waiter, Please in the US where it reached #30 on the Billboard Rock Chart. The band toured the US with Scorpions and toured further in Europe before the single was released in Australia, reaching #10. Back home, they toured with Allegiance and the Who Cares album peaked at #3 on the national chart. During 1995 they toured nationally with The Angels, The Screaming Jets and Who's Guilty and in 1996 toured worldwide with AC/DC and played Australian shows with Kiss. Gavin Hansen from Blackseed replaced James Young in 1997. During 1998 they supported Van Halen and released a stand alone single in 1999 but split in 2000.

Hansen formed Lump in 2003 with other former members of Blackseed and Skenie joined soon after. The Poor reformed in August 2006 for a single show, and got back together again to tour with W.A.S.P. in 2008 and played a one-off show in Melbourne on December 6. In mid-2009 it was announced that The Poor, now based on the Gold Coast, was back together once again and preparing to record a swag of material. Round One was released in October. The album featured House, co-produced by Billy Thorpe, the last recording he worked on before his death. The release was followed by a national tour that included several shows with The Screaming Jets and an appearance at the Big Day Out on the Gold Coast in January 2010. Round 2 was released in mid-2010. In April 2011 The Poor toured the east coast with ZZ Top and Rose Tattoo.

In 2018, Julian Grynglas left The Poor and Dan Cox joined the band. During 2019 The Poor toured nationally with Palace of the King and in 2020 performed AC/DC's Back in Black album in full at a series of shows to celebrate its 40th anniversary. They were named as the support for Kiss' Gold Coast show but that was postponed due to COVID. Work on new material continued and in early 2022 the band's first new track in 12 years was released ahead of a forthcoming album. Following some Australian shows with Rose Tattoo, The Poor announced they would be touring with them in Europe during 2022. High Price Deed was released in February 2023 and the band toured Europe immediately afterward.
