Shackles was formed in Sydney in 2000 by Belshaw, and guitarists Loony and Rainer, formerly of German band Minotaur. Separovic from Samsara's Wounds joined on drums shortly afterward and several songs were written before Rainer left. The band continued as a three piece until 2002 when Separovic (by now also a member of Infernal Method) quit both bands to live in Adelaide. A new line-up featuring ex-Mordacum and Samsara's Wounds members existed for a short time before more line-up changes occurred and Shackles was interrupted once more. By late 2003, Separovic was back in the band. Alfieri and Lastro were added some time later and in 2005 the group supported Toxic Holocaust and played some shows interstate. A 7" single has since appeared along with several demos.
