Band information

Crypt was a brutal death metal band from Brisbane who injected their basic style with a staunch amount of solid groove. With a truly diabolical vocal style from Martin, demonic heaviness, Young's solid drumming and a pea-soup thick density, Crypt were one of Australia's best death bands for a number of years and were finalists in the 1995 Queensland Rock Awards, some achievement for a band of their style.

The band formed in 1993 with Alan Bennet on drums and quickly set down a three track demo, followed a year later by a self-titled EP which gained nationwide attention for its crushing brutality.

Shortly after the release, Bennet was replaced by Young, who was also a member of Invocation for some time. The El Nino release was a further direction of the band's sound and exhibited an injection of groove and Crypt followed it up with extensive interstate work including two Metal for the Brain shows. Crypt split in mid-2000, however, before reaching their true potential.
