Taking its name from a character in the Douglas Adams book Life, the Universe and Everything, Brisbane band Arcane plays a form of highly melodic and complex progressive metal in the vein of more experimental and avant garde prog bands like '''Porcupine Tree''' and '''Pain of Salvation'''. During 2009 the band opened for '''Queensrÿche''' and released their second album which was completed a year or so earlier. In 2013 they supported '''Soilwork''' in Brisbane, during which time Brendan Brown from [[Ne Obliviscaris]] played bass as they searched for a replacement for Brendon Blanchard. Aracne launched a crowd-funding campaign to produce their third album and hit their target in three days. Adrian Golesby joined Arcane in 2014 and they appeared with '''Anathema''' late in the year. Jim Grey is also the vocalist with [[Caligula's Horse]].
