Band Information

Caligula's Horse was formed by Jim Grey (Arcane) and Sam Vallen in April 2011 as a two-man progressive rock band and a short time later issued their full-length album with Vallen playing all instruments. Soon after the rest of the band was recruited with drummer Geoff Irish coming from Echotide. An EP followed in September. During 2013 the band began to build its profile on a national level. They appeared at Progfest in Melbourne, toured with Twelve Foot Ninja and opened for Firewind in Brisbane before releasing the highly acclaimed second album The Tide, the Thief and the River's End. In 2014 Caligula's Horse toured nationally with Voyager and appeared with Protest the Hero as well as Progfest and the BIGSOUND showcase. During the year they also appeared on tours by Opeth, Mastodon, and The Dillinger Escape Plan.

In late 2015, Caligula's Horse toured with TesseracT and released Bloom in October. They they toured Europe with Shining. Josh Griffin replaced Irish in May 2016. Greensill left the band in early 2017 to concentrate on his other band, Opus of A Machine. Former Arcane member Adrian Goleby replaced him. In Contact was released in September.

Late in 2018, Couper left Caligula's Horse. Dale Prinsse from Opus of A Machine replaced him in March 2019. In September the band toured North and South America. Touring in support of Rise Radiant was abandoned due to COVID restrictions but the album still got to #23 on the national album chart. In July 2021 Goleby left and was not replaced. Soon after they were first band to be announced on the 2022 Uncaged rock festival bill, but before it took place Caligula's Horse quit the show and instead did a headlining tour of their own in late April 2022, with Greensill acting as the band's second guitarist. They joined The Butterfly Effect's national tour in late 2022.

Caligula's Horse toured Europe during mid-2023. Charcoal Grace was released in January 2024 and the band toured North America immediately.
