Band information

WHO IS CANNIBLAST? Formed in Cairns in late 2006 by guitarist Michael ‘Mykill’ Maroules and the rhythm section of “Tormented” (2003-2006), drummer Kned Gulliford and bass player Gene ‘The Penis’ Waltham. Canniblast was formed for one reason and one reason only; to make loud, fast and aggressive music.

After getting a few tunes together Canniblast began their search for a vocalist, eventually settling on Euan Williams. However, Euan had to step down as the intensity required to fill the position left him with painful headaches. It was then that Canniblast (heeding Euan’s recommendation) stumbled upon vocalist Nick ‘Greggore’ Gregg who had a long history as an ex-front man with Deadlock (2003-2004) and Phinisha (2004-2005). Greggore joined the band and the line up stayed the same until late 2008 when they employed the services of a second guitarist Isacc Lis to thicken up their sound.

Starting off supporting other Queensland bands, Canniblast soon shot to the front of the pack; often attracting more followers than the larger headlining acts. Their aggressive style often ‘wore out’ the crowds, moshing themselves out of energy, before the last band could play. This caused Canniblast to be employed to headline “Thunder Struck Thursdaze” a Metal night at a local club “Freakquency”. Every Thursday night at Freakquency Canniblast thrilled crowds and earned their stripes with there increasingly tighter sound and onstage antics.

Due to a demand for a CD, Canniblast kept their fans happy and hit the studio in January 2008 to record their debut, entitled “Blasticide”. Self produced and funded independently from gig revenue, the album was recorded at Purple Sound Studios (http://www.studiocairns.com/) in Cairns and mastered by Robyn Gist at Turtle Rock Mastering (http://www.turtlerockmastering.com/). With the production of the CD sounding far superior to other local bands, the CD was a hit with more copies needing to be printed after just one month!

WHAT NOW? In May 2008, 7 bands made the trip from Brisbane to play shows in Cairns and Townsville. Canniblast were asked to support them, and soon, word had spread back in Brisbane of an “awesome band” rising from the north. This landed Canniblast a gig in the upcoming ‘Metal of Honor’ in May 2009. To coincide with this event Canniblast have planned a series of shows down the east coast of Queensland for their first ever tour. Starting in Cairns on the 7th of March they will be playing the Cairns Recreational Centre along some of the regions finest heavy metal and rock acts. Canniblast will make their way down to the Sunshine Coast to play a gig at Sands Tavern on the 13th, then at the Step Inn on the 14th in Fortitude Valley Brisbane. This gig ‘Metal of Honor’ is a well known event, often attracting interstate acts. They then head back to Rockhampton to play at O’Dowds Irish Pub on the 21st . Finally they come to Townsville on the 11th of April to play the last show at Riverview Hotel. To support their trip Canniblast have printed shirts, stickers, beer coolers and of course loads of copies of “Blasticide” for the fans to buy. There are currently copies of Blasticide on sale in Rocking Horse @ Queen St Mall in Brisbane, Sounds Unlimited @ Flinders Street Mall in Townsville and Acoustic Human in Cairns. Canniblast have also sold copies of Blasticide in New Zealand, Papua New Guinea and Canada.
