Formed in late 1995 out of the ashes of a cover band, The Wolves stormed onto the national metal scene, but just as things looked like taking off they inexplicably disappeared. By 1998 the line-up had consolidated and a short while later, in early 1999, The Wolves opened for Entombed in Melbourne. Even without an official release, The Wolves played the 2000 Big Day Out in Melbourne and opened for Slipknot, considerable achievements for a band that had not yet progressed beyond the demo stage.

An album was promised for September 2000, but the release date was pushed back, followed by an announcement that they would not be playing live until at least 2001. A last minute withdrawal from 2000’s Metal for the Brain stoked rumours of a split and more rumours began that Jason Lacey was jettisoned (turning up some months later in Melbourne band Sith), the album had been shelved for good and The Wolves would undergo a name change. The band denied this eventually, later reconvening with plans to release the album with extra tracks, although this failed to occur.

Eddie Lacey was Damaged’s touring bassist in 2000 and he and Jason recorded with The Berzerker. The band played a handful of shows in early 2002, but since then has done nothing and has presumably split. Jason Lacey joined Devolved but left in late 2005 and began working in The Berzerker once more. Lee and Howell have since released an EP from their band Humonic which they had originally formed prior to joining The Wolves. In late 2007 Ed had replaced Jason in The Berzerker and was also playing in a new band called Adverse Reaction.
