D9 started in 1998 as a six-piece band, playing their first gig in Wynnum. Over the next couple of years, D9 carved their niche in the Brisbane metal and punk scene, occasionally getting banned from venues due to their destructive behaviour. After line-up changes in 2001, D9 became a seven-piece band. Later highlights included supporting Strapping Young Lad and slots on Overcranked and Metal for the Brain.

In May 2005, D9 called it a day, but not for long. In March 2008, the band hit the stage for a reunion gig at Infernofest.
