Band Information

Pod People is perhaps Australia's finest doom/death rock band. The band formed in Canberra in 1993 as a stoner rock act, eventually releasing a self-titled EP in 1995. Only vocalist Nicholson remains from that line-up today, as shortly afterwards the group imploded. Nicholson recruited Dryden from the sludge band Log of which he was also a member and the new Pod People was formed with Maggs from Precursor, Walker from Pagan Babies and Nixon all joining the band.

From 1996 onwards, Pod People began to get heavier while maintaining the stoner influences, particularly evident on 1998's "Swingin' Beef" EP, but gradually developed a doomier style comparable to Pentagram, Cathedral and Goatsnake. Pod People featured at Metal for the Brain every year from 1996 and played the festival more often that any other band except Alchemist.

In 2000, Pod People recorded their debut album, originally titled Ascent to Glamstonia but after considerable delays it was finally issued on High Beam in 2002 under the name Doom Saloon. Nixon was also a member of Blood Duster for about a year from 2002 until mid-2003. The album was released by British label Rise Above in 2004. The band toured nationally with Electric Wizard in late 2005. Following this the band began writing for a follow-up album and played live only occasionally but featured on several key dates during 2007 with Nunchukka Superfly, Blood Duster and Celtic Frost. With Mons Animae Mortuorom due for release in August, Pod People will again be touring the east coast.
