Sydney, NSW, 1986
Misery was one of Australia's earliest and longest-running death metal bands, possibly the closest any local band has come to Morbid Angel's vision of the genre. The band formed in Brisbane in 1991 with members drawn from other local acts such as Black Magic, Northwinds, Anger In Motion and Savage. Problems with lead vocalists marked the course of the band's early career, but even so the band had already laid the foundations for their dense and formidable, all conquering holocaust. The "Sorting of the Insects" and "Astern Diabolos" demos (the latter with its confronting "demon birth" artwork) established Misery as a supremely heavy act, with a sound that flirted with flat out grindcore and elements of doom along with their patented no mercy death metal.

Band Information
Original singer Darren Goulding was jettisoned from the band after the release of A Necessary Evil and a national tour with Pungent Stench. Into the breech stepped Mausoleum's Moises Contreras for the 'Insidious' EP, which experimented more with doom elements and spawned the legendary gore-drenched video for the track 'Torn'. Following an appearance at he Big day Out on the Gold Coast, Contreras' stay with the band came to an end, though his departure was on much more amicable grounds than Goulding's. After several frustrating months finding a permanent replacement, Robinson took up the gauntlet himself. Goulding went on to join Manticore and Sulkus and Contreras later formed Sakkuth.

Complete chaos and violent death metal hell is at the core of Sadistik Exekution's existence. Undoubtedly Australia's most legendary heavy metal band, and certainly one of the the best known overseas, Sad Ex as they've come to be known are among the true pioneers of both the modern death and black metal genres. Sadistik's music is a ballistic and unrelenting assault of incredibly fast riffs and raw aggressive vocals.
The scene was now set for Misery's next phase, and after being picked up by Warhead Records the band recorded one of the heaviest albums ever recorded in Australia, the brutal and vital Revel in Blasphemy. The raw production standards employed on the CD only helped to enhance the sinister, cataclysmic death metal which sprawls across the album. Revel... helped to put Misery on a more national footing and revitalised interest in a band which had almost been forgotten outside of Brisbane until that stage.

The idea for Sadistik Exekution came after Rok and Dave Slave met at an Iron Maiden concert in Sydney in 1985. For the next few years, the pair worked on building a line-up while untaking a constant campaign of outrageous publicity stunts and intimidation including TV appearances and bizarre interviews in men's magazines, leading to the band having a bona fide legendary status even before they'd ever recorded or played. Melbourne guitarist and artist Hades joined Sadistik Exekution in 1989 but Wasn't considered competent enough at the time so the incredibly raw debut album was recorded with former Slaughter Lord guitarist Sandy Vahdanni. The following year Hades joined the band but within a short time both Vahdanni and Sloth left, Sloth due to becoming a Born Again Christian.
After this, Misery continued on their path with merciless live shows, featuring at Metal for the Brain and at several smaller shows in and around Sydney. The band's next album was completed by 1998 but scheduling issues with Warhead meant it wasn't released before the label closed down. Eventually Curses appeared on Venomous Records in 2000. During this time all the band's members were involved with other groups: Khanaghinis in stoner band Green Steam, Robinson, Dwyer and Khanghinis recorded a demo with a doom band called Cardinal Sin and Edgar was in Sound Surgery for a few years.

The Magus was released in 1991 and sometime later Sloth recanted his Christianity and rejoined the band, allowing them to play live. During the recording of the next album however, Sloth left the band again and was replaced by Steve Hoban. The album was intended to be self-titled, but when Osmose received the tapes of it with "We Are Death... Fukk You!" written on them they released the album with that title instead. In 1995, Sadistik Exekution prepared to tour Europe with Impaled Nazarene and Absu, but a back injury to Hoban forced him to leave the band and he was replaced for the shows by Skitz from Damaged. During the tour the band almost self-destructed when Rok and Kriss bashed Dave after he went berzerk and trashed the tour bus. Hades broke his finger during the altercation and had to play out the tour with the injury. On their return to Australia, Hades couldn't play for a year while his hand recovered; in the meantime, Sloth rejoined the band once again.
After a tour of New Zealand late in 2001, Khananginis decided to leave Misery to concentrate on Green Steam. The remaining members kept Misery going, recording a fourth album was that completed by 2005. After this, Robinson left Australia to live in the US and Misery disbanded. Obsidian Records released On Demon Wings in mid-2007. Scott Edgar formed The Dead in 2005 but left that band in early 2008. He and Anthony Dwyer have since formed Laceration Mantra.

Sadistik Exekution's live showings were unmissable events as gigs turned into circuses of debauchery featuring massive volume, appalling acts of depravity from Dave Slave that included everything from eating dog food to a plate of his own shit, Rok's insane rantings and Hades' habit of playing with 50 or so safety pins through his skin. Cartoon violence and even physical attacks on the crowd were also not uncommon.
Misery briefly reformed for a tour with Mournful Congregation in March 2009.

In spite of their infamy, Sadistik Exekution played and recorded rarely but 1998 was a particularly busy time for the band's members. Dave Slave released the first of his numerous solo projects, Digital Fiction, a sort of electronic rock 'n roll act. Kriss Hades joined Nazxul and Sloth started a rock band. Rok recorded two solo albums, released the first of them and played a one off solo show late in the year. The band played a final show for the year on New Year's Eve and in 1999 played only once, at Sydney's Globe Theatre. This would prove to be Sadistik Exekution's final live performance. The band members maintained for most of 2000 that Sadistik Exekution had been put to rest but at the same time they were working on a new album. Named as one of the headlining acts of the 2000 Metal for the Brain festival, Sadistik Exekution had to withdraw from the event after Dave broke his leg in a fight and couldn't walk for almost a year.

Despite constant assurances from members that Sad Ex is no more, Fukk was released in 2002 and Fukk II in 2004, although it is now unlikely that the band will ever play together again. Kriss released his first solo album in 2002 and Dave appears committed to Doomed and Disgusting and is apparently seeking to break into acting since appearing in a TV ad campaign for potato chips in 2003. Sloth joined Inslain the same year and now plays in 8 Ball Junkies, Nomenclature Diablerie and his own band.
