Band Information

For a time possibly Australia's most well known symphonic black metal band, Lord Kaos endured interminable line-up changes over the years as the group progressed to a seven piece format. With similarities to the likes of Norwegian black metal outfits such as Satyricon, Lord Kaos dominated the scene for several years.

Lord Kaos formed in Sydney in 1994 originally as a five piece but before long as down to a trio of Marsh, Astennu and Incubus and the demo "Path to My Funeral Light" was recorded in 1995 with the full-length album Thorns of Impurity being completed by the end of the same year. Warhead Records optioned the album but the band had also attracted attention from Head Not Found in Norway. This caused a split in the band as Astennu went to Norway in an effort to re-establish Lord Kaos there but the remaining members remaining members resisted the move with the resultant dispute delaying the album's release until late 1996. In the meantime, Astennu developed his Carpe Tenebrum project with Nagash from Dimmu Borgir, a band he would then join for two years.

Following the guitarist's departure Lord Kaos ground to a halt as the band was rebuilt but by early 1997 the new line-up included Chad from Grenade, Munoz from Neuropath and Shaun and Darael from a Newcastle band called Empury of Thorns'. Chamis from Neuropath then joined in place of Incubus when he departed a short time later. Lord Kaos supported Cradle of Filth in late 1997 with this line-up and began work on the long overdue second album. Incubus rejoined after the departure of Chamis and Munoz in mid-1999. Following their appearance at Metal for the Brain that year however, Incubus left once again and the group went into hiatus while Marsh performed in both Elysium and Crucible of Agony.

In 2000, Dyer from Elysium and Ward and Blazejak from Psychrist had joined Lord Kaos and live work began once again however by the end of 2001, after cancelling a number of performances through the year, the band was laid to rest.
