Band Information

Nazxul is a black metal band from Sydney. Mercilessly unrelenting and incorporating snatches of immensely heavy and sophisticated death metal, Nazxul was a studio project for several years, issuing a best-selling demo, before the appearance of the Totem album which featured Mitchell, Henderson, Morelli from Grungeon, Steve Hughes from Slaughter Lord and Dalibor Backovic on bass and vocals. Nazxul's style is extreme and exhausting, with a live emphasis on theatrics and crushing volume. The band played their first ever gigs in 1998, some five years after inception. By now Rev. Kriss Hades from Sadistik Exekution had joined on guitar and Morte from Bestianity was the band's vocalist, with Henderson taking over the bass role. Hughes left the band after these shows and in early 1999 was replaced by Front End Loader drummer Pete Kostic.

In mid-1999 the "Black Seed" EP was re-released by Chatterbox with extra tracks. Morte was then sacked from the band following an unfortunate incident at the end of their national tour with Impaled Nazarene and Backovic rejoined the band, his first ever live appearance with them being the 1999 Metal for the Brain festival. Shortly after this the individual members of Nazxul went their separate ways for some time with none too forthcoming about the future of the band. Kostic joined Regurgitator and is now also with the Hard Ons. Mitchell joined Brace with several former members of Henry's Anger. Hades has since gone solo.

Rumours had long abounded that Nazxul would live again, however, and the band was to support Dimmu Borgir in early 2004 but the tour was cancelled. However, several months later Nazxul toured nationally with Virgin Black. The touring line-up featured Mitchell, Henderson, Morelli plus Mills and Lomas from Secratain and Yatras from Battalion. After several years since of silence, Nazxul was announced as the major support on Mayhem's 2008 Australian tour, but the shows were cancelled. During the year, the group completed work on the long-promised Iconoclast album and began making tentative plans for live shows. Tragically however, Greg Morelli was killed shortly after midnight on November 20, 2008 when his motorcycle hit a flooded stretch of road in Sydney.

Iconoclast is due for release in early 2009. The 2002 release is a 12" vinyl picture disc of a live show from 1999.
