Band information

King Parrot was formed by three ex-members of Watchdog Discipline (White, Lacey and Rizzo) plus Young from Stiff Meat and Cockfight Shootout bassist Slattz in Melbourne in 2010. The band released an EP in short order and quickly became firmly established as an energetic and punishing live force. Former Dreadnaught member Squiz joined following Lacey's departure and after plenty of touring the band's full length release appeared mid-2012 ahead of appointments at most of the Bastardfest shows. Matt Rizzo was replaced by Matt Skitz after this, though Skitz' commitment to several other bands saw Rob Brens from Alarum occasionally sit in for him on tour.

In April 2013 King Parrot announced they had signed an international deal with Candlelight Records and appeared at Hammersonic in Indonesia. This was followed by a tour with Thy Art is Murder and Cattle Decapitation and a headlining slot at the Dead of Winter Festival, then a national tour with Psycroptic. The band was then announced as a local opener at the Melbourne Soundwave Festival in February 2014 before embarking on an overseas tour. 2013 ended with an Australian tour with Gay Paris. Early 2014 King Parrot toured with Havok and Desecrator before heading to the US. Upon returning to Australia, Skitz announced his departure after a national tour with Carcass.

Todd Hansen from Brisbane's ROME and several other bands joined in his place and another national tour followed. In 2015 they toured with the Soundwave festival before recording their second album with Phil Anselmo, who also guested on the track "Like a Rat". Dead Set made #23 on the ARIA Album chart and the band supported the release with an Australian tour ahead of a US jaunt with Superjoint Ritual before returning home for another tour. In January 2016, King Parrot toured internationally with Soulfly; Matt Young guests on Soulfly's Archangel album. King Parrot was set to support Five Finger Death Punch in April 2016, but that tour was cancelled. In early 2017 they toured nationally with Psycroptic and Revocation. Ugly Produce was released in October and the band then toured the US with Superjoint and DevilDriver.

The singles "Banished, Flawed then Docile" and "Nor is Yours" - featuring Anselmo - were released in 2020 with the band unable to tour due to COVID restrictions and the EP Holed Up in the Lair appeared in October of that year. The band's planned 10th anniversary tour was postponed and rescheduled several times in 2021 but they toured once again during 2022. In 2023 King Parrot toured extensively throughout Australia and the US once again and in March 2024 they were the opening band at Knotfest Australia.
